A Hawaii Vacation - It's Not Cheap, but it's Worth it!

By Aloha Scott

With thousands of vacation destinations around the world today, Hawaii continues to be the one place most people really want to go.

A Hawaii vacation is most everybody's dream vacation. And for millions every year, it becomes a reality.

Many people who visit the Islands decide that they want to keep returning at least every few years. Some even make it their annual vacation. Hawaii is a place that is very easy to fall in love with.

Hawaii is one of the best vacation spots in the world today, and the prices of these vacations reflect this. It's certainly not a place that you can book an all-inclusive cheap vacation. For the most part, lodging alone will cost you more than many entire vacations.

So, how is it that so many people visit the Hawaiian Islands each year?

Simple.

It's worth it. Every last penny.

When many people are looking to go on vacation, particularly to somewhere tropical, they tend to think that all tropical places are pretty much the same, so they just look for the best vacation they can get for the lowest price... and in most cases, Hawaii won't even be on their list since the total package price will end up much more than almost all other vacation spots.

There is just something different about Hawaii. No other place on this planet compares to it. It's something everybody needs to experience.

To me, it is worth the extra 50% to 75% that you are going to spend when it's all said and done.

Here are a few of the reasons why Hawaii vacations are worth the money...

Hawaiian people are the most friendly people in the world. It amazes me every time I visit the state. I know some places are "touristy," but even when you venture off to places a little less like that, the people are still amazingly friendly... much more friendly than any other place I've been to.

Hawaii is a very clean state. You won't see garbage on beaches, roads, or in the forests. Since Hawaii isn't very big, the land is greatly appreciated and respected. You won't find a much cleaner vacation destination.

Hawaii almost never gets hurricanes. The state's last hurricane, named Iniki, was in September of 1992, causing about $1 billion in damage - mostly on Kauai. And even the biggest rainstorms don't last much more than a day at most.

Ahh, and of course surfing. Hawaii is the surfing capital of the world. And some of the best surfing spots are found right on the Hawaiian Islands. There are great places to surf whether you are a beginniner or a full-fledged professional. The best and biggest waves come in during the winter months, which runs from about November to April. If you love surfing, it doesn't get any better than the North Shore of Oahu in the winter. And although it's not surfing, body surfing (a.k.a. boogie boarding) is very popular, fun, and easy to do.

Hawaii has the most active volcano in the world, Kilauea. This volcano has been spewing molten lava since January of 1983. It is one of the sites many tourists visit when they make their trip to Hawaii and it's no wonder why. There isn't a more active volcano on this planet than Kilauea.

If you like eating, drinking, and watching some entertainment, you'll love luaus. Luaus are popular because they don't require any sort of work on your part, you get to eat lots of good food, and it's a unique experience. If you plan on going to a luau in Hawaii, make sure you plan well ahead of time as most luaus sell out fast.

Hawaiian music. Many people find themselves falling in love with Hawaiian music. Hawaii has it's own unique style of music and I'd imagine that after vacation in Hawaii, you'll want to listen to it more when you get back home... mostly because it will make you feel like your back in paradise!

The USS Arizona Memorial in Pearl Harbor gives you a vivid look into the past. This memorial spans the mid-portion of the sunken USS Arizona battleship. The ship was sunk on December 7, 1941 from a Japanese surprise attack. Just seeing the oil droplets rising to the surface of the water gives you chills. This is one memorial everybody should see.

Some of the best snorkeling and scuba diving can be done just off the shores of Hawaii. Hawaii is home to some of the most incredible looking fish and coral reefs. And if you are lucky, you may see some reef sharks. On one snorkeling adventure I was on, we had three six-foot long reef sharks swim slowly by right underneath us... it was absolutely amazing. And, the guides told us that not only do they hardly ever see sharks while snorkeling, but the reef sharks that we did see were about the biggest ones they have ever seen!

Whale watching is another huge attraction. In the Winter, when the northern waters are cold, many whales come to Hawaii to give birth and nurture their offspring. This is the time of year that you can enjoy a rare view of a Humpback Whale breaching!

And if you're a golfer, then you probably know that Hawaii has some incredible golf courses. It is a place that every golfer dreams of golfing. Golf a round at the Poipu Bay Resort Golf Course, home to the PGA Tour's Grand Slam of Golf each fall.

These are just some of the reasons why Hawaii vacations are worth it, even though it will probably cost you more than most other vacations you can take.

So if you are contemplating where to take your next vacation, stop. Take a trip to Hawaii... take it from me - you won't regret it and you'll probably be coming back for more.
